Thomas L. Morgan - Biography
Dr. Thomas Morgan is the Executive Director of Radiation Safety Services and Chief Radiation Safety Officer for Columbia University, Columbia University Medical Center, NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, Allen Hospital, and New York State Psychiatric Institute. The mission of Radiation Safety is to facilitate safe conditions for utilizing radiation, maintain radiation exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and to ensure operations are in compliance with applicable city, state and federal regulations. This office provides expert guidance and timely service to the University Community through a commitment to health and safety. Employing best practices and collaboration, and by building long term relationships, it promotes a productive and safety-conscious work environment
Prior to his arrival at Columbia University in January 2011, Dr. Morgan was the Radiation Safety Officer at the University of Rochester from 2003-2010. In this capacity he served as the chief radiological compliance officer for a research university, associated medical school and Level I trauma hospital. As a radiation biologist, Dr. Morgan conducted biomedical research for 20 years at several research universities and a national DOE-funded laboratory. He is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine and is certified by the American Board of Health Physics in the practice of Comprehensive Health Physics and is a licensed Medical Physicist (Medical Health Physics) in New York.
